Day 10: The Things I Didn’t Know I’d Have to Learn to Build a Clothing Brand
Share
When I decided I wanted to build my own clothing brand, I thought I knew what I was signing up for.
Design clothes. Build a website. Market them. Sell them.
Cute. 😂
Apparently, I forgot the part where I would also need to become a photographer, content creator, website designer, product researcher, marketer, SEO student, pricing analyst, customer service department, shipping expert—and occasionally a professional “why the hell isn't this working?” Googler.
Welcome to Day 10 of Building Bezi Studio.
And if Day 9 was about the ugly work nobody sees, Day 10 is about something I'm realizing more and more:
You don't know how much you don't know until you actually start.
I Thought I Needed a Clothing Brand. I Actually Needed an Education.
I've learned more building Bezi than I expected.
And I'm definitely still learning.
One minute I'm working on a sports bra design.
The next I'm researching product margins.
Then I'm fixing something on Shopify.
Then I'm figuring out shipping.
Then I'm learning SEO.
Then I'm creating content.
Then I'm staring at my website wondering if one button should be three inches higher. 😂
There isn't a handbook sitting next to me telling me exactly what decision to make.
A lot of this journey has been:
Research → try it → mess it up → learn → fix it → keep going.
And weirdly, I'm starting to realize that's not a sign that I don't know what I'm doing.
That's entrepreneurship.
Learning How to Price Without Just Picking a Cute Number
Pricing has probably been one of the biggest lessons.
Because I don't want Bezi to be cheap.
I want it to feel premium.
But one of the reasons I'm building this brand is because I believe women and men should be able to wear elevated, beautiful fitness and lifestyle pieces without feeling like they have to spend their entire grocery budget on an outfit.
So there's a balance.
What does the product cost?
What does fulfillment cost?
What about shipping?
What margin does the business need?
What price makes sense for the customer?
What price reflects the brand I'm trying to build?
Suddenly, putting $39.99 on something isn't quite as simple as it looks.
Learning That A Website Isn't Just Supposed to Look Pretty
This one humbled me. 😂
Because I LOVE the creative side.
Colors.
Fonts.
Photos.
Layouts.
Branding.
But a beautiful website that doesn't make shopping easy isn't doing its job.
I've had to start looking at Bezi through the customer's eyes instead of mine.
Can you immediately understand what Bezi is?
Can you find what you're looking for?
Do the product photos give you enough information?
Does the description answer your questions?
Does the site feel trustworthy?
Can you easily check out?
I'm learning that every little detail either makes someone feel more comfortable shopping—or gives them another reason to leave.
Pretty gets attention. Trust gets the sale.
Learning Marketing Is WAY More Than Posting
Ohhhh, this one. 😂
Before building a brand, it's easy to think:
I'll just post my products on social media.
And then you actually start marketing a business.
Now we're talking about TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Google, SEO, email, blogs, product photography, videos, keywords, hooks, captions...
HELLO?! 😂
But I'm also learning something really valuable.
People don't just want to see another pair of leggings.
They want to know why this brand exists.
They want to know who's behind it.
They want to know what it stands for.
They want to feel connected to something.
That's one of the biggest reasons I'm documenting this journey instead of waiting until everything is perfect.
I don't want you to meet Bezi after it's built.
I want you to watch me build it.
Learning to Make Decisions Before I Feel Ready
This might be the hardest lesson.
There are SO many decisions where I would love somebody to magically appear and say:
Amber, this is absolutely the correct answer. Do this.
Unfortunately, nobody has shown up yet. 😂
So I've had to learn to make the best decision I can with the information I have—and move.
Sometimes I'll change it later.
Sometimes I'll realize I was wrong.
Sometimes I'll absolutely nail it.
But I can't build a business if I'm afraid to make a decision until I'm 100% sure.
Because I'm starting to think 100% sure doesn't exist when you're building something new.
The Biggest Thing I'm Learning?
You don't have to know everything before you start.
Read that again.
Because I think this is what stops SO many people from going after something they want.
"I don't know how."
Neither did I.
There are things I'm doing today that I didn't know how to do a few months ago.
And there will probably be things I'll be doing six months from now that I couldn't even explain to you today.
You learn because the business forces you to grow into the person capable of running it.
That's the part nobody really talks about.
I'm not just building Bezi.
Bezi is building me too.
Same Girl. Bigger Vision. 🤍
I still have my regular life.
I still have responsibilities.
I still get tired.
I still second-guess things.
I still have moments where I wonder whether I'm doing enough—or doing any of this right.
But then I look at what exists today that didn't exist before I started.
The BZ logo.
The clothes.
The website.
The products.
The content.
The blog you're reading right now.
The vision is slowly becoming something I can actually see.
And none of that happened because I knew exactly what I was doing.
It happened because I kept learning.
So if you're waiting until you know everything before starting your thing...
You're going to be waiting forever.
Start.
Learn.
Mess something up.
Fix it.
Learn some more.
And keep freaking going.
Because someday, the things that confuse you right now might become the things you can do without even thinking.
Day 10 complete. 🤍
And Bezi is one day closer.
Elevated fitness. Everyday luxury. Accessible prices.
